Have Your Say on CWIS3

17th November 2025 — Help shape the future of walking and cycling in England.

The Government is consulting on the third Cycling and Walking Investment Strategy (CWIS3), and Cycle North Cheshire is encouraging local residents to take part. They are looking for feedback on their proposed vision, objectives and key performance indicators.

CWIS3 sets out positive ambitions for active travel. We’re pleased to see a clear acknowledgement that building new active travel infrastructure is essential to increasing walking and cycling. This is something we’ve long advocated.

However, while the strategy includes many welcome statements, it still needs stronger commitments to ensure real change. In our response, we’ll be emphasising two key priorities:

  • More ambitious thinking from local councils — They should be encouraged to develop new, connected cycling networks, rather than taking a cautious or incremental approach to active travel.

  • Long-term maintenance funding — Any funding for infrastructure should be accompanied by appropriate maintenance funding in perpetuity, so paths don’t fall into disrepair and councils aren’t deterred from building them in the first place.

Your voice can help reinforce these points. Consultations rely on public input, and a strong response from Cheshire residents will show that active travel matters in our community.

Take part in the survey by 15 December 2025. It only takes a few minutes and, by taking part, you can help steer how walking and cycling are supported for many years to come.
