2017 ended on a highly positive note for Cycle North Cheshire (CNC) when it met with its local MP Mike Amesbury on 14th December.
Mike, as an enthusiastic supporter of cycling, expressed his support for the aims and activities of the forum and agreed to be patron of the group; a move gratefully appreciated by Mark Warren of CNC.
At this informal discussion, members discussed with Mike its current activities including areas where his assistance would be appreciated.
Principally these were:
- Improvements of cycle routes across the across the marshes to provide a traffic free link between Frodsham and Helsby with Stanlow and beyond.
- Liaison with CWAC and other local and national authorities
2018 is looking to be a busy year with CNC being very active in many areas with regards to various schemes to improve cycling throughout the area.
Many thanks go to the Ring of Bells for their excellent hospitality on the night.
Mark Warren, Interim Chair of CNC stated; “It was good to meet our local MP and hear his ideas to help progress cycling improvements in the area. We are fortunate to have a local representative with such a deep understanding of the issues through previous experience and a good working relationship with the Local Authority and other stakeholders and look forward to 2018 being a year of delivery”.

DATE: 7th October 2017
Headline - Free Local Cycle Maps Now Available
Weaver and Sandstone Cycle Forum (WaSCF) has recently produced a free detailed map specifically designed for cyclists in our locality. The maps were commissioned by WaSCF which was set up in 2013 to promote cycling and improve cycling provision across North Cheshire.
500 maps, listing numerous local routes and other information useful to cyclists, have been produced and have been disseminated to cycle shops, cafes and other business and public organisations throughout the area. Also at the start of this school term, 120 maps were delivered to local schools throughout Frodsham and Helsby for the benefit younger cyclists and parents. With the maps having been so well received, WaSCF proposes to recommission another print run of 1000 maps that will be available in the near future.
Sponsored by RSK Environment Limited, one of the UK’s leading environmental consultancies whose head office is based in Helsby, Sue Sljivic a Director of RSK commented: “encouraging greater cycle use is part of our company ethos and RSK had no hesitation in supporting this most worthwhile local initiative”.
Chairman of the forum, Dr Patrick Milroy stated:
“I am delighted with the both quality and detail of the maps that will be of great assistance to cyclists of all ages and abilities. These informative cycle maps are just one of the many initiatives that WaSCF is working on encourage cycling usage and safety across our local area”
